When beginning your independent comic book journey, you may ask yourself: How do I
get my comics out there?
These days, digital/online social media outlets: TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, DeviantArt, can provide the opportunity for you to share your talent around the world.
However, if you prefer to have a personal connection with your audience, conventions are the way to go. It is the most important way to establish an organic camaraderie with your fans.
Byrd’s Eye View Comics (BEV) has hosted multiple conventions in the United States over the last four and a half years. We have presented in Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, New York, New Mexico and Missouri, with conventions such as, but not limited to: Mighty Con, Monster Con, Valparaiso Card and Comic Show, and Geek Fest.
At these events we have met other talented artists, writers, game designers and many other artistic creators.
We also get to speak to potential fans of our comics, vendors and celebrities! (I think we met even the majority of the Power Rangers!) What I find amazing is that people love to meet comic book creators in person.
Fans have expressed how much they enjoy and are impressed with what we are doing as an independent comic book group.

People want to see new stories and artwork and often they come to our table excited to see what we have to contribute to the industry. There are also returning readers who visit us to provide feedback or to pick up the latest titles.
Conventions are an exhilarating experience. They breathe new life into independent comic book creators. When you’re in a slump nothing picks you up better than meeting the fans!
In a digital age, conventions promote human interaction, fostering relationships and building an audience. Even if you don’t make a ton of sales, or if you do, there is no
price tag you can put on building a creative community!
